For Those Who Are Weary

Dear Weary One,

There will be times when it all feels too difficult. There will be times where you feel so lost you aren’t even sure how to start to find a way out. There will be times that everything feels unfair. That life feels too heavy. There will be times you find yourself in uncomfortable conversations that you never imagined yourself in. There will be times you look around at the world that surrounds you and feel hopeless. And all of this leaves you feeling exhausted.

I want you to know that it is totally normal to feel this way. That it is OK not to be OK. But I also want to be the voice, if you need it today, that tells you to keep moving. Don’t stop fighting for what is right. Don’t give up on yourself in these times. Don’t live in the weariness forever but don’t be afraid to allow yourself to feel it either.

Too often we try to get people to ‘positive think’ their way out of the bad times. And the truth is we have to feel the depth of our pain and disappointment sometimes. We have to. When people tell us things like ‘it gets better’ they say it because they don’t know what else to say. They also say it because they want us to feel hope and we should be appreciative of their want to give us hope. But don’t feel like you can’t feel your pain or that you don’t have a right to sit in the sadness of the moment for a bit. You can’t rise if you have never felt the ground underneath you. Feel it. Allow yourself to be vulnerable.

Then find your hope. I know you have it. It is that small tug inside of you that tells you to keep moving. When you are on the floor crying, it tells you to pick yourself up, to wipe the tears, and get out there. When you are lost personally or professionally, it is that something that keeps telling you to believe in yourself. When you find out news that devastates you and you don’t know how you will make the next day, it is that something that tells you just to start with one step. When you feel like you can’t have one more conversation it is that something that stirs you to know it is on you, on all of us, to keep working to make this a better place.

Find the light in the dark. Find your hope. Reach out and ask for help when you need it. Know that sometimes to rise again we need to talk to someone and we need to seek help, we need someone to sit on the ground with us and help us find our way up. Believe in yourself weary one because I believe in you, I believe your rise is coming.

“We are the authors of our story. We write our own daring endings. We craft love from heartbreak. Compassion from shame. Grace from disappointment. Courage from failure. Showing up is our power. Story is our way home. Truth is our song. We are the brave and brokenhearted. We are rising strong...” ~Brene Brown~

In love, strength, vulnerability and hope,
